PLD: Lead Yourself First

Leadership is generally talked as leading others, and how to be good leaders for others.
In this article, I am going to talk about the idea of Self-leadership. It means before becoming a leader for others, lead yourself first. If you want to be a good leader for others, be a good leader for yourself first.
If you want to be a good leader for others, first of all, see that you are leading yourself well, you are leading your own life well.
As a good leader, one needs to have Vision, Values, Focus, Determination, Integrity, Clarity. To be a good leader for others, one has to practice these leadership qualities in one’s own life first, And this will make a person a good leader for others too.

Some of the practices for self-leadership:

Know yourself:

Know your life’s Vision, your important dreams and hopes in your life.

Know your purpose, know why you are doing what you are doing in life, it is your purpose that gives you inspirations and power to do what you really want to do. Focus on your purpose, the cause!

Know your passion, know what are you passionate about, know what really sets fire inside you, whatever you do – do passionately!

Know your core principles and values that are guiding your life, live your principles and values, be aligned to them all the time, this is the only way that will give you deep inner satisfaction and sense of fulfillment in life.

Be Real you, Be authentic:

Once you know who you are, then be that person, real you. Be authentic, be real in whatever you do. You don’t need to be the best, you don’t need to be perfect, but be authentic.


Whatever is your Vision, Purpose, Goal, stay Focus on them all the time, in whatever situation. This is the way that will lead you to success.

Positivity and Optimism

In whatever situation and condition, always think positive and be Positive! This is the way to keep your energy charged and your hope alive. Attitude is a habit and it is a choice we make, it is not about situation and condition that you are in, but it is your attitude towards any given situation and circumstances that will determine your future.

Emotional resilience

Knowing how to deal with your emotion is a very important skill and ability to be successful in life. When there are heavy emotions, do not let the emotion control you. Instead, learn how to deal with that emotion in a way that is in aligning with who you are. You don’t have control over the outside situation and circumstances, but you have control over how you deal with that situation and circumstances.
